index of dystopia is one part of a larger performance called the habitat of dissent which explores the idea of a safety net in resistance and building a culture of care. in zurich, during the period that the artist was present in quarantine, they hand stitched a textile declaration that curates key developments in the race towards autocracy in india. the work was then mounted in a public square in zurich where it hung over scenic streets and people, hosting pedestrians in its shade, replicating a dark cloud, such as the one hovering over India as a nation-state. during the public exhibition, the audience interacts with the install as part of the ongoing stitching. a habitat of dissent (performance) began as a proposal for a permanent performance intervention in public / semi-public and institutional spaces. through a series of artistic interventions, the idea of a safety net in resistance, and the building of a culture of caring is explored. habitat of dissent is an attempt where one recognises their own position in the resistance, encouraging it through tools of care.
