index of dystopia is part of a larger performance called habitat of dissent which explores the need for safety nets and a culture of care within resistance movements. during their residency at gesneralle, the artist spent two weeks in quarantine. they used this time to hand stitch a textile declaration highlighting key authoritarian developments made in india, during the pandemic. the work was then mounted in a public square in zurich where it hung over scenic streets, drawing pedestrians to its glittery gaze. this durational piece interacted with onlookers as the stitching continued from place to place, outside major swiss banks, parks and monuments.
a habitat of dissent began as a proposal for a sustained performance intervention in public / semi-public institutional spaces through a series of artistic interventions. habitat of dissent is an attempt to urge participation within dissent, encouraging a recognition of the self within movements, through tools of care.
