when a name is laid to rest by force where lies its burial ground
performance, 15 minutes / w139, 2021, melkweg expo, 2024
this performance is premised on the relationship of body to land where intangible forces of displacement and abandon are metaphorically explored through dirt, sweat, and song.
rah corresponds dirt, sweat, and land, to those bodily responses experienced under immense heat, pressure, fatigue and rigor, tracing them back to the tired body.
neo colonial systems detach oppressions from the body, away from their implications, reduced to mere ideas of displacement, otherness, and abuse, they become discourse, a final juncture, concept.
the performance is a call to the tired body, the one that carries dirt from grounds, the wet feet that move it from one motherland to another, in reckless abandon, to the heads bowed in devotion to gods fast asleep. a confluence of sound, language, text.
